Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program 2008

The Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program (WHIP) is a voluntary program for people who want to develop and improve wildlife habitat primarily on private land.

Through WHIP, USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service provides both technical assistance and cost-share assistance to establish and improve fish and wildlife habitat. WHIP agreements between NRCS and the participant generally last from 5 to 10 years from the date the agreement is signed. For specific cost-share amounts see the WHIP Payment Schedule.

All Counties statewide are eligible.

Application Deadline June 27, 2008.

  • Maximum individual contract funding is $35,000.
  • Minimum acreage of 20 acres, except for South Florida Rockland, where 1 acre minimum will be accepted.

Declining habitat
Threatened and endangered species
Northern Bobwhite Quail habitat
Exotic and invasive species control
        *  Climbing Fern
        *  Brazilian Pepper
        *  Melaleuca
        *  Tropical Soda Apple
        *  Cogongrass
        *  Downy Rose Myrtle

A Cooperative Weed Management Area (CWMA) is a partnership of federal, state, and local government agencies, tribes, individuals and various interested groups that manage noxious weed or invasive plants in a defined area.
