NRCS Funds Available for Water Quality Projects in Florida 
Sign up by June 15, 2012 for FY 2012 funding

Florida agricultural producers in three watersheds will receive targeted funding to improve water quality through a new National Water Quality Initiative. NRCS will manage the initiative by making $741, 000 available to Florida farmers, ranchers and forest landowners in the selected watersheds: Deep Creek, Clarks Creek and Little Scurlock Creek.

Announcing New Wildlife Conservation Efforts to Protect Gopher Tortoise       

The USDA’s NRCS in Florida is currently taking applications for technical and financial assistance on a new innovative partnership approach to restore and protect the habitat for targeted threatened and endangered species, while also helping other vulnerable and game species. Florida landowners can sign-up for assistance to help manage and restore habitat for the gopher tortoise. Applications are accepted year-round.

Mark Your Calendars: The Fifth National Conference on Grazing Lands is Coming to Florida

The Fifth National Conference on Grazing Lands (5NCGL) will be held Dec. 9-12, 2012 in Orlando, Florida. Its theme is “Grazinglands, a Magical Environment,” in keeping with Orlando and the Magic Kingdom. The conference aims to heighten awareness of the economic and environmental benefits of grazing lands. Conference sponsors are accepting abstracts for both oral and poster papers until May 1.  Registration for the conference will be available on their website www.glci.org  after June 1.
